Looking like an enemy straight out of Bloodborne, the Giant Land Octopus is more bark than bite. While it is massive, and players will likely be terrified when they land a few hits and its health barely moves, the key to success is simple. Giant Land Octopuses stagger very easily, so if players land a few hits at the front of the ball-like amalgamation of tentacles, they will stun it. From there, a critical hit will be easy to pull off, and players will do some incredible damage to the beast.

However, Reddit user Highsenberg199774829 did not encounter one of these enemies in a head-on fight. The clip begins with the Reddit user riding Torrent toward a cliff in the Mountaintop of Giants. Clearly confused by the amount of blood stains in this area, as they see no enemies to fight, they hop off their horse and inspect a blood stain. This is where things quickly take a scary turn, as the Giant Land Octopus prepares to ambush the Reddit user.
What makes the clip so entertaining is that players see the Giant Land Octopus preparing to pounce. Seeing the shadows of its tentacles slowly growing larger behind the player as they interact with the blood stain adds some proper horror to what would normally just be a jump scare, and the player clearly notices the shadow at the last second. As the Reddit user rolls away from the shadowy tendrils, the Giant Land Octopus makes a terrifying noise and leaps down to fight the Elden Ring player, attempting to capitalize on its scare tactics.
While the comments section was filled with Elden Ring players sharing the scariest moments from their playthroughs, with many citing some of the Catacombs, others suggested that Highsenberg199774829 return to this same area at nighttime. This is because the hardest version of the Death Rite Bird will spawn at this location once darkness falls over the Lands Between. The gamer who posted this clip was happy to receive this information, as they finally received their answer about where all the bloodstains came from. While scary, it would make little sense for this sneaky Land Octopus to wreak that much havoc.
With a DLC for Elden Ring leaked online, players could soon be experiencing some fresh encounters with never before seen enemies. However, these foes will surely have a tough time scaring Highsenberg199774829 as much as this slimy, well-hidden creature did.
Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
