Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has removed Nolan’s newest sci-fi thriller from its release calendar making this Tenet’s third delay. Originally, the summer blockbuster was scheduled to debut on July 17 before it was delayed twice to its new date, August 12. After it has become clear that movie theaters won’t be fully open for Tenet’s release, the decision was made to put the film’s debut on hold.

Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement that there are plans to announce a new date for Tenet coming imminently. Emmerich also mentioned that the plan is to ensure the highest odds of success for Warner Bros. films and also supporting theater partners with new content when theaters can safely reopen.
Tenet is also facing trouble releasing in China, according to Variety. China is the second-largest movie market but currently has a restriction on how long movies can be shown. Currently, China is only allowing movies to be shown for two hours which would rule out Tenet as it has a run time of two hours and 30 minutes.
Tenet isn’t the only blockbuster title that Warner Bros. is having to move around. Wonder Woman 1984 is still scheduled for 2020 but with COVID-19 surging in the US, it’s no guarantee that will have safely reopened fully by then.
Recently, a safe way to watch Christopher Nolan’s movies has been through Fortnite. The popular battle royal treated players to an in-game screening of Inception in the United States and The Prestige in the United Kingdom.
Tenet is set to premiere in 2020.
