Dontavis Sapp, a linebacker on last season's team whose eligibility has expired, was arrested for resisting arrest and buying alcohol for someone underage. The bill was moved forward by the Tennessee House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, according to the Tennessean, which also reported that the bill was passed within four hours. Under the proposed legislation, the state would allow anyone aged 21 and older to carry a handgun without a permit, as well as military personnel aged between 18 and 20. Gun theft would also be upgraded from a misdemeanor offense to a felony crime carrying a sentence of six months....
In a briefing on Wednesday evening, Governor Lee recommended that schools across the state close, but stopped short of enforcing closures. Lee said he hoped that schools would follow his recommendation, and after the briefing, counties across the state announced that they would be closing. WVLT8 reported that Knox, Morgan, Blount, Claiborne, Campbell, Hamblen and Monroe counties announced that they would be closing their schools for the rest of the academic year....

The home of Jake and Brooke Melton, located near the 900 block of North Washburn in Decatur, was searched by law enforcement with a warrant on April 28, the Wise County Messenger reported. Police said that they found 5 kilograms of DMT, a hallucinogenic and psychedelic drug, as well as methamphetamine and a drug processing lab. A total of close to $3 million worth of drugs was seized. “They attended church frequently, and so it was really kind of a surprise to numerous people,” Decatur Police Chief Delvon Campbell told ABC News affiliate WFAA....
